FEW EXPERIENCES ASK MORE OF THE HUMAN BODY THAN PREGNANCY

Over the course of nine months, your body adapts in remarkable ways to support both you and your growing baby. Your posture changes. Your centre of gravity shifts. Your breathing changes. Your joints, muscles and nervous system are constantly adapting as your baby grows. Then, just as your body begins adjusting to life after birth, you're suddenly lifting, feeding, carrying, cuddling and functioning on far less sleep than before. It's a season of incredible change.

At Adelaide Chiropractic Centre, Dr Tamara loves supporting women through this journey - from preparing for pregnancy, throughout each trimester and into the postnatal months. Our goal is to help you better understand your changing body, support healthy movement and help you feel confident as you navigate this special chapter of life.

UNDERSTANDING PREGNANCY & POST-NATAL CARE

SUPPORTING YOUR BODY BEFORE, DURING & AFTER PREGNANCY

Every pregnancy is unique. Some women feel fantastic. Others experience changes that make everyday activities feel more challenging as their pregnancy progresses. As your body grows and changes, it's common to notice differences in posture, balance, movement and the way everyday activities feel.

After your baby arrives, your body continues adapting. Feeding, carrying, lifting, interrupted sleep and caring for a newborn all place new demands on muscles and joints that have already worked incredibly hard. Whether you're planning a pregnancy, expecting your first baby or settling into life with a newborn, every stage brings its own unique changes.

Dr Tamara takes the time to understand your individual journey and discuss whether chiropractic care may be appropriate for your circumstances. Where appropriate, we also work collaboratively with your GP, midwife, obstetrician, women's health physiotherapist or other members of your healthcare team.

YOUR CARE

HOW CHIROPRACTIC CARE MAY HELP

Healthy movement depends on your joints, muscles and nervous system working together. Throughout pregnancy, your nervous system is constantly helping your body adapt to changing posture, balance and movement as your baby grows.

Depending on your stage of pregnancy and individual needs, chiropractic care may include gentle hands-on care, soft tissue techniques, movement advice, pregnancy-appropriate exercises and practical strategies to support comfortable movement. Special pregnancy cushions and modified positioning allow care to be provided comfortably throughout pregnancy.

After birth, care may also include guidance around lifting, feeding positions, returning to movement and supporting your body's recovery as you adjust to caring for your new baby. Every care plan is personalised because every woman and every pregnancy is different.

💡 DID YOU KNOW?

Your body continues changing long after your baby is born.

Many people think recovery ends at delivery, but your body continues adapting throughout the postnatal months. As you lift, feed, carry and care for your baby, your muscles, joints and movement patterns continue to evolve.

Taking time to look after yourself isn't a luxury - it's an important part of supporting your own health and wellbeing as you care for your growing family.

OUR APPROACH

LOOKING AFTER THE WHOLE MUM

One of the things Dr Tamara enjoys most about caring for pregnant women is the opportunity to support the whole person - not just the pregnancy. Growing a baby is physically demanding. Becoming a mother is emotionally demanding too. Sleep changes. Daily routines change. Relationships change. Your body changes. Your confidence changes. Your nervous system is constantly helping you adapt to each new stage along the way.

That's why appointments often become about much more than movement. They're an opportunity to pause, check in with yourself, ask questions and reconnect with healthy habits that support your wellbeing. Our aim is to help you feel informed, supported and confident in your changing body. Because when Mum is supported, the whole family benefits.

DR TAMARA’S TAKE

"One of my favourite parts of practice is caring for women during pregnancy. I never stop being amazed by what the human body can do. Pregnancy isn't something to 'fix' - it's something to support. My role is to help women understand their changing bodies, move comfortably, feel confident and know they have someone walking alongside them through one of life's most incredible journeys."
